Hey Friend,
Happy New Year. Cheers
I brought the new year in at my homegirl’s house with our families, and honestly, I’m not really sure how time moved so fast. We left the house around 7 PM, already having that infamous conversation you have before you arrive anywhere: “Alright, we’re just going to be over for a little while.” The plan was to leave by 10 PM..
Before I knew it, it was 11:21 PM. Me and my homegirl were cackling in the kitchen. Our kids were running around chasing each other, and our men were sitting at the table, cards shuffling, drinks pouring, with music playing in the background. Long story short, we had a really great time. Moments like that are why I love this time of year. Being with family and friends, laughing together, creating new memories, and talking about what’s ahead.
Every new year, I usually come in HOT with a vision Board in hand, big dreams and an even bigger laundry list of resolutions. I think it's the psychological effect the new year brings that really have me thinking I'm going to be a whole new person over night. LOL. But after many years of failed New Year’s resolutions, I realized it wasn’t the goals that were the problem. It was the pressure. Every year I’d create this long list of things I was supposed to change about myself, and by February, I’d already feel behind or like I messed up.
This year, I told myself I didn’t want to bring that energy with me. I don’t need to become a whole new person overnight. I just needed to move with more intention and more grace. Instead of asking myself what I’m going to accomplish, I’m asking how I want to feel and live. How do I want my days to feel? What did I do in 2025, that I want to continue in 2026. Looking at it from this perspective helps me to not focus on the outcomes but the input.
For example, if you were on a mission to lose 25 lbs, you wouldn’t just focus on the weight-loss goal. Instead, you’d turn your attention to the habits that need to be created in order to make it happen.
That means asking yourself:
What daily actions will move me closer to this goal?
What routines do I need to build to make progress sustainable?
Maybe it’s committing to drinking more water, planning balanced meals ahead of time, or setting aside 30 minutes for movement each day. These habits become the foundation for success because goals without systems are just wishes.
When you focus on habits, you shift from an outcome mindset to a process mindset. The scale might not move overnight, but every healthy choice compounds over time. When you consistently act like someone who values health, you start to become that person.
As we head into this week, I want to encourage you to start small. You don’t need a full plan or a perfect routine right now. Pick one intention for the week. One thing you’re willing to do to be the person who achieves the goals you have. Whatever it is, let it be enough.
Here’s to a new year, a new week, and a new opportunity to show up for yourself on purpose. Whether you’re easing into your morning, getting ready for the day, or taking a quiet moment for yourself, let this be your reminder that care counts. A little gloss, a deep breath, and the decision to move intentionally. That’s enough.
Intentionally,
Bes 🫶🏽
